A total of nine Pin Oak band members were selected into the HISD All-City Band last October through competitive auditions. They will rehearse and perform at Waltrip High School this weekend. While much communication regarding the Clinic/Concert Weekend has been shared during class, this update is being sent on our blog and posted on Classjump in order to relieve any lack of information transfer from students to parents. POMS HISD All-City band members include Priya Fink, 1th chair flute; Layla Shawareb, 11th chair flute; Tina Li, 12th chair flute; Elena Zhang, 4th chair clarinet; Ilana Inselbuch, 5th chair clarinet; John Euscher, 2nd chair trumpet; Benjamin Tollett, 2nd chair French horn; David Hulten, 6th chair trombone; and Noah Prophet, 5th chair tuba.
Three Pin Oak students placed as alternates in their sections. These include Christopher Hernandez-Sanchez, clarinet; Nicholas, trombone and William He, percussion. These students should be prepared to “join the band” if called to do so. Hopefully we will know early in the day on Friday, if they move up into membership.
A concern has been raised by several of our POMS band members regarding SAT testing on Saturday morning. After speaking with the All-City organizer, I explained to our students a week ago that they will be excused from the Saturday morning practice in order to take the test. They need to report to Waltrip High School as soon as possible following the completion of the test. They are required to attend the Friday rehearsal at Waltrip High School from 5-9 P.M. and should eat before they arrive.
Another concern is over weather related issues and possible adjustments to HISD extra-curricular and after school schedules tomorrow evening. Should there be any changes effecting All-City, I will blog the adjusted schedule out and post it on class jump.
Lastly, several students took an opportunity to order a lunch for Saturday. Here is who ordered what:
Vegetarian: Priya Fink
Turkey on White: Layla Shawareb, Ilana Inselbuch
Turkey on Wheat: Elena Zhang
Ham on White: John Euscher, Noah Prophet
All of these students need to pay Mr. Todd $5 during class on Friday morning. Since this money will be handed directly to the All-City organizer, please pay by exact cash. Students who did not order a lunch need to bring their lunch.
